"We are like a tree, planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not whither.  Whatever we do will prosper." (Psalm 1:3)

A place where children
love to learn,
and learn to love
God and others

Children's Ministry Mission:

The desire of the Evergreen Church is to make God’s love known to all people, including children of all ages. We believe that children are an important part of our church. We are committed to partnering with parents to train children to know Christ and to grow up to be all that God intends. We provide safe, fun, and age appropriate experiences here at church to fulfill our mission:
  • Value each individual child as a unique creation of God
  • Introduce children to their loving Heavenly Father, and to a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ
  • Develop Christian values, moral responsibility, service to others, and Biblical character in the children’s lives
  • Provide children with genuine caring relationships with adults and peers
  • Teach the Word of God through Bible stories, lessons, memorization, and motivating activities
  • Provide opportunities for children to be baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit
Wellness and Health Policy:
Because we love all our children, we accept only well children into our classes. We follow the Department of Health guidelines, which prohibit children with the following symptoms from being admitted to class: temperature of 100 degrees or more, rash not associated with diapering, heat, or allergies, congestion, greenish nose discharge, eye discharge, severe cough, diarrhea or vomiting within 24 hours.

Nursery Department: Birth - 2 years
Department Head: Fran Rogers
Your child is cared for in a safe and loving environment, where s/he can play and interact with other children while you enjoy the adult worship service. Trained attendants give your child lots of loving attention, feed a bottle if you send one, and change your child’s diapers. Your toddler hears and sings worship songs, sees pictures and hears stories about Jesus and God’s love, and sometimes does a simple craft project. Nursery rooms are kept very clean. Toys are disinfected after use. We follow the Department of Health guidelines for cleanliness when changing diapers.

Preschool Department: 3 - 6 years
Department Head: Robin Goss
Preschoolers love their class, where creative and caring teachers and helpers welcome them with a smile, and invite them to participate in meaningful and fun activities that help them learn about God and the Bible. During the class your child has free play time with age appropriate toys, drama, and games, listens to a Bible story, sings, talks to Jesus in prayer, learns a Bible verse, eats a snack, and makes a craft.

Elementary Department: First - Fifth Grade

Department Head: Kathy Norquist
Elementary Sunday Morning Class:
Because we value the family worship experience, elementary children worship with their families in the main sanctuary until the pastor dismisses them to class. Children are involved in Bible lessons, active learning experiences, discussions, games, crafts, drama, puppet shows, and motivating contests that make learning fun and help them relate the Bible to their everyday lives. The focus is on beginning and nurturing a friendship with the Lord Jesus Christ, developing Biblical values and character, enjoying authentic relationships with caring adults and peers, and serving others.

Each month your child has a key learning theme and memory verse. Be sure to look at your child’s take home paper, so you can discuss the topic and verse together. Children earn points toward prizes by learning Bible verses, bringing their Bible to church, and bringing friends to church.

Elementary age children are often ready to begin a deep and personal relationship with Jesus. After children commit their lives to Christ as Lord and Savior they are introduced to the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Parents decide on the appropriate time for each of their children to celebrate their new life in Christ by being baptized in water at an exciting church baptism celebration.

Elementary Kid's Club: First - Sixth Grade
Department Head:
The Kid’s Club meets at the church every Wednesday evening, from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., January - May. The Kid’s Club does not meet October - December because the Kid’s Club children are involved in Christmas Play practices on Wednesday evenings. The format for Kid’s Club each week includes: prayer and share time, a Bible lesson discussion, a craft or activity, refreshments, and play time. Children have the opportunity to develop close supportive Christian friendships in the warm and casual atmosphere.

Performing Arts:

Children and young people may develop acting skills, music talents, social skills, friendships, and positive self esteem through participating in the Kid’s Choir and the Christmas play performing arts programs.
Christmas Play:
Department Head: Doris Dittmore
Every year our children perform a Christmas play for the entire church. Children of preschool through high school age may participate. Practices take place on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., October -December and on the Saturday before the play.

Kid's Choir:
Department Head: Darlene Johnson
Elementary and Middle School students are invited to participate in Kid’s Choir. They worship God through song and learn basic singing skills. The Kid’s Choir performs at church at Christmas time and on Mother’s Day. They sometimes perform at Enchanted Village Holiday Lights program, at nursing homes, and at other community outreach events. Practices take place every Wednesday evening, from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m., October -December,  before Youth Group, Kid’s Club, or Christmas Play practice.

Family Activities:
Department Head:  Annie Lake
Developing authentic friendship with God, each other, and caring adults is encouraged through all of the classes and activities. The children, parents, and teachers go on occasional outings together to the Family Fun Center, Wild Waves, Hope Fest, ice skating, bowling, the zoo, and movies during the year.
